All the Mods 10 Beginner Guide
ATM10 has ~500 mods, and it can be overwhelming when you first load in. This guide covers exactly what to do in your first hours, the most important keybinds and tools to know about, and a clear progression path from Day 1 to endgame. Every tip here is verified and tested in ATM10.
Before You Start: Essential Keybinds
These keybinds will save you hours. Learn them before you start playing:
| Key | Action | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| ~ (tilde) | Vein Mining / Ultimine | Hold while mining to break entire ore veins, chop whole trees, or harvest fields at once |
| J | JourneyMap (full map) | Opens your world map with waypoints, terrain view, and coordinates |
| M | Atlas Map | Alternative minimap view |
| R | EMI Recipe Lookup | Hover over any item and press R to see how to craft it |
| U | EMI Usage Lookup | Hover over any item and press U to see what it's used in |
Day 1: First Things to Do
Food
Don't waste time farming wheat. ATM10 has much better food options from the start:
Wild Onions & Fruit Trees: Look around your spawn area for wild crops and fruit trees from Farmer's Delight and Pam's HarvestCraft. Pick them for instant food.
Infinity Ham: If you find one as a relic drop, keep it. It's infinite food that never runs out.
Fruit Punch: Easy to craft from fruit, gives good saturation. One of the best early drinks.
Starter Base
Supply Camp or Ship: Look for a MineColonies Supply Camp or Supply Ship in your inventory's search (type "supply" in EMI). Place it for a free pre-built base with chests of starter materials.
/sethome: Type
/sethome to save your spawn point. Use /home to teleport back anytime. Also: /back returns to your last death point, /spawn goes to world spawn.
Crafting Table on a Stick: Craft one and put it in your Curio slot. You'll have a portable crafting table always available — right-click it from your inventory.
Essential Early Tools
Copper Ore Hammer: Craft this ASAP. It doubles your ore output (each ore block drops 2 raw ore instead of 1). Use it on everything.
Osmium Paxel: Osmium ore is everywhere. Craft an Osmium Paxel from Mekanism — it's a pickaxe, axe, and shovel in one tool with 14 attack damage (better than Netherite Sword). See our weapons guide for details.
Pocket Storage: Replaces old "Danks" from previous packs. Craft a Pocket Storage block for portable, auto-pickup storage. Essential for mining trips.
Sophisticated Storage: Craft Sophisticated Storage chests for early base storage. They can be upgraded with more slots and have built-in sorting.
First Week: Building Your Foundation
Tools That Never Break
Silent Gear: The most important tool mod in ATM10. Craft Silent Gear tools using templates — they can be repaired infinitely with Repair Kits and upgraded by swapping parts. Your Silent Gear pickaxe will last the entire game. See our weapons guide for the full system.
Get Flight
Wooden Jetpack: The cheapest flight option. Craft it with planks and basic materials. Flight makes everything safer and faster.
Free Runners (Mekanism): While not flight, these boots prevent fall damage and let you walk up 1-block steps automatically. Great until you get a jetpack.
Power Generation
Wind Generators: Place Mekanism Wind Generators above Y=100 for free, passive power. They generate more energy the higher they are.
Player Transmitter: This Mekanism block lets you wirelessly send power from your generators to your machines without cables. Place one at your power source and one at your base — works even across dimensions.
Exploration Setup
Waystones: Found naturally in villages. Right-click to activate them, then teleport between any activated Waystones for free. Set up a network as you explore.
Fortune 5: Use EvilCraft's enchanting system to combine Fortune books up to level 5. Massively increases ore drops. See the weapons guide for the process.
Steam Drill: From Modern Industrialization. A coal-powered drill with Silk Touch, 3x3 mining area, and no durability. Great for strip mining.
Mid-Game: Expanding Your Reach
The Mining Dimension
Your first major milestone. This dimension has 37+ ore types across 4 layers — the best place to gather bulk resources.
Step 1: Mine Allthemodium ore in the Deep Dark (below Y -40 in the Overworld). You need at least a Netherite-tier pickaxe.
Step 2: Convert Allthemodium into Nuggets and craft a Teleport Pad.
Step 3: Place the Teleport Pad and step on it to enter the Mining Dimension. See our dimensions guide for full ore distribution.
Storage Progression
Early: Sophisticated Storage chests with upgrades.
Mid: Functional Storage (drawer-like blocks that hold tons of one item type). Ars Nouveau's Storage Lectern for a searchable magic inventory.
Late: Applied Energistics 2 (AE2) for digital storage, auto-crafting, and remote access. This is the endgame storage solution.
Resource Generation
Mystical Agriculture: Grow any resource as a crop. Start with Inferium Seeds, work up tiers (Prudentium → Tertium → Imperium → Supremium). Add Growth Accelerators under your farms for fast growth.
Productive Bees: Breed specialized bees that produce resources. Pair with the Bumblezone dimension for bee-related items and the Crystalline Flower.
Late Game: The ATM Star
The ultimate goal in ATM10 is crafting the ATM Star. This is the final achievement that requires materials and items from dozens of different mods.
ATM Star 2.0: Crafted at the Runic Star Altar. Requires rare materials from multiple dimensions and mod systems. The FTB Quests book tracks everything you need.
Quest Book: Press the quest book key to open FTB Quests. It provides structured progression through all major mods and tracks your path to the ATM Star.
Common Beginner Mistakes
| Mistake | Why It's a Problem | What to Do Instead |
|---|---|---|
| Mining without Vein Mine (~) | Wastes huge amounts of time | Always hold ~ while mining ores and chopping trees |
| Not using EMI (R/U keys) | You'll never figure out modded recipes alone | Hover over ANY item and press R to see its recipe |
| Vanilla tools too long | Modded tools are massively better | Rush Osmium Paxel on Day 1 |
| Building before exploring | You'll miss free loot and waystones | Explore villages first, grab Waystones, find Supply Camp |
| Ignoring the Quest Book | Miss progression guidance and free rewards | Open FTB Quests early and follow the starter quests |
| Too much RAM allocated | Can cause GC pauses and stuttering | 8-10 GB is optimal. Don't go above 12 GB |
